Jesus had absolute power.
He could command legions of angels to come and enforce whatever He wanted.
However, He willingly allowed both the religious and political powers of this world to arrest Him, mock Him and then kill Him.
When He was resurrected into a new immortal humanity, He did NOT go to those political and religious leaders to assert His dominance and victory.
Jesus appeared only to the hundreds who already trusted Him.
So, the way of Jesus is the only way to a society that can handle people doing what is wrong.
Only HE can hold power and also give space and freedom for people to do and say what is deeply wrong.
The secular experiment worked ONLY when it was sitting on top of a profoundly Christian society.
Now that the Christian foundations are gone, the secular experiment cannot deliver a genuinely open, free and tolerant society.
Both left and right will always use power to silence their opponents.
When either left or right is OUT of power, they become "champions of freedom", but when they are IN power, sooner or later, they will use that power to control those who are "wrong".
In the 1980's the left seemed to be the great voice of freedom of expression - freedom of the press... and the right seemed to be the voice of censorship.
More recently they switched places - but, that is how it will always be.
Only the LORD Jesus can hold power and still give us a dangerous level of "freedom" to do what is wrong.
