Sin sucks us down into darkness and despair - hardening our hearts, narrowing our vision and leeching away all hope.
When our thoughts are alienated from God, we can't feel anything properly and so we end up in obsessions and addictions just trying to feel something... or else numbing it all so we can't feel anything.
"The true horror of existence is not the fear of death, but the fear of life.
It is the fear of waking up each day to face the same struggles, the same disappointments, the same pain.
It is the fear that nothing will ever change, that you are trapped in a cycle of suffering that you cannot escape.
And in that fear, there is a desperation, a longing for something, anything, to break the monotony, to bring meaning to the endless repetition of days."
— Albert Camus, The Fall
BUT....
"Turn away from your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.
Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord..."
Acts 3:19-20
"Even though we were dead because of our sins, God gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead...
He raised US from the dead along with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus...
You used to be outsiders...
In those days you were living apart from Christ...
You lived in this world without God and without hope.
But now you have been united with Christ Jesus.
Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to Him through the blood of Christ...
Now you are no longer strangers and outsiders...
You are members of God’s family.
We are becoming a holy temple for the Lord.
YOU are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by His Spirit."
Ephesians chapter 2.
